The inspiration for this wallpaper was the "Sole di Capri" pattern, a design by Fornasetti from the 1950s. Piero Fornasetti had a lifelong passion for Capri. The idea of combining personified suns and clouds first appeared in a sketch for a headscarf pattern that Fornasetti designed in 1950.

The wallpaper manufacturer Cole & Son was founded in 1873 in North London. In the 50s and 60s of the last century, Cole & Son worked together with numerous contemporary artists. This resulted in wallpaper classics such as the vintage wallpaper Woods or the shabby chic wallpaper Hick's Hexagon.
