Wilton - Baroque wallpaper from Little Greene

Wilton - ca. 1760

A classic damask design with the large scale pomegranate motifs very typical and popular of the mid 18th century. This wallpaper was probably originally a non-woven wallpaper and decorated an English manor house. Non-woven wallpapers were an English specialty and, although they were actually only imitations of costly textiles, expensive to produce and thus a striking expression of luxury and social status.

Little Greene Paint Company Limited is a family-run English paint and wallpaper manufacturer dedicated to producing exclusive paints and wallpapers. With a history dating back to 1773, the factory on the outskirts of Manchester is one of the oldest industrial sites for paint production in England. Many of Little Greene’s wallpapers revive designs that had lain forgotten in archives for decades. They are produced using intricate printing processes on high-quality non-woven backing, which gives them their refined, traditional texture and elegant appearance.
