The wallpaper features an eye-catching Arts and Crafts pattern of large, reed-like leaves entwined with small flowers against a light-coloured background. The design is inspired by Far Eastern plant painting and was created as a wallpaper based on a design by E.W. Godwin from 1872. Like William Morris, Godwin also devoted himself to the embellishment of the interior. Oscar Wilde described him as "one of the most artistic spirits of this century in England". Godwin was strongly influenced by Japanese design and often used bamboo motifs in his work.

The wallpapers by William Morris are a classic of English wallpaper design. They suit both classical and modern interior concepts.
William Morris (1834-1896) was an English textile designer, poet, writer and translator. A pioneer of the English Arts and Crafts movement, a forerunner of German Jugendstil, he helped revive traditional British textiles and crafts.
In 1861 he and partners founded Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co, which became Morris & Co in 1875, a manufacturer of furniture and decorative arts. The company was inspired by medieval aesthetics and craftsmanship and had a great influence on the interior design of churches and houses in the early 20th century.
In 1940, Morris & Co closed. However, the wallpaper designs are produced and marketed to this day by Sanderson under its Morris & Co brand name.
