MERCI opened in March 2009 in the artists' quarter of Haut-Marais in Paris. More than just a shop, it is a unique place, a shop to linger in, with three cafés and restaurants and a rich programme of exhibitions and stagings.
In 2009, MERCI chose a vintage tin ceiling panel as the interior decoration for the Paris shop. Not a day has gone by since the opening without a visitor taking photos of the pewter counter or asking if it was for sale. This phenomenon gave MERCI the idea to design and market the Brooklyn Tins wallpaper collection together with NLXL.
Historically, tin ceiling coverings have been introduced in North America as an affordable alternative to the exquisite plasterwork used in Europe. The thinly rolled pewter panels were traditionally painted white to give the appearance of handmade or plaster moulded stucco work. Today, the irregularity and ageing process creates the special appeal of this American architectural icon.

The Dutch label NLXL, based in The Hague, is known for its extraordinary wallpapers that bring contemporary art and avant-garde design to walls. In collaboration with Dutch and international design greats such as Piet Hein Eek, Piet Boon, Studio Job and MERCI, wallpapers have been created in recent years, many of which have found their way into design museums around the world.
Many patterns are playfully colourful, others are photorealistic translations of powerful materials such as marble, concrete, metal or patinated pewter tiles. Thanks to their extreme expressiveness, which transforms rooms, they are suitable for both classic and modern, industrial interiors
