Art Nouveau, Art Déco and the English Arts and Crafts movement have spawned timeless wallpaper designs. They can be combined just as well with furniture from their period of origin as with current interior designs.
Among the wallpapers from the Art Nouveau period, you will find pronounced floral ornaments and wallpapers with leaf designs. Later, naturalistic floral wallpapers came into fashion. In the Secession style of the Wiener Werkstätten and Art Déco, wallpapers featured ornaments with clear contours and strong contrasting colours and cup-shaped floral designs. The English Arts and Crafts movement which William Morris co-founded in the 19th century pursued the goal of reuniting arts and crafts. With its iconic wallpaper and fabric patterns, it focused on creative work as a contrast to increasing industrial mass production. The use of machines was rejected. The Arts and Crafts movement is considered a precursor of Art Nouveau, which called for the reintegration of art into everyday life.
