Little Greene Wallpaper Cavendish Stripe
Cavendish Stripe - stripe wallpaper by Little Greene
Little Greene celebrates the harmonious historical marriage of colour and wallpaper with its Painted Papers striped wallpaper collection. All ten designs are more than just plain striped wallpaper, as they are based on historical patterns found in various archives, including English Heritage and the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. Traditional printing methods were used in the production of these wallpapers, where paint was originally applied instead of ink - similar to the manufacturing method in previous centuries, which is also the reason for the charming surface texture.
Cavendish Stripe - paper wallpaper, ca. 1965
In keeping with its sister wallpaper Marlborough from Little Greene's London Wallpapers II collection, the age and origin of the wallpaper on which this design is based is perhaps misleading. This particular fragment, backdated to 1965, turned up during restorations carried out by English Heritage at Marlborough House in London's Pall Mall, however this wallpaper was itself based on a much older original. In this interpretation, the line motif was completely removed to create a clearer, more versatile striped wallpaper. Even on the wallpapers in this book, the strié background is achieved using the trough method and horsehair brushes, while the stripes and gold-bordered edges are created by block printing.
Available in four colourways.
