Farrow & Ball’s matte signature paint for walls and ceilings
Estate Emulsion is Farrow & Ball’s best-known matt emulsion paint for walls and ceilings. Its excellent flow properties and exceptional, quintessentially English colour depth create a velvety, powdery finish and particularly smooth, even surfaces.This creates an impressive, atmospheric intensity, particularly with darker shades.

Estate Emulsion vs. Dead Flat
Estate Emulsion and Dead Flat both have a similar gloss level of 2%. The key difference lies in their durability and versatility. Estate Emulsion was developed exclusively for walls and ceilings. Dead Flat was developed specifically for high-traffic areas and can be used on walls and ceilings as well as on wood and metal.
Estate Emulsion has a slightly more velvety finish than Dead Flat – but is also more sensitive to mechanical wear and tear. For rooms with normal wear and tear, where a distinctly English look is desired, Estate Emulsion is the first choice.
Application
The paint is characterised by minimal dripping and excellent flow, which minimises the formation of roller marks.
For a perfect finish, it must be applied in two coats using a high-quality synthetic paint roller or a brush with synthetic bristles.
To ensure optimum adhesion and maximum colour depth, it is essential to prepare the surface with the appropriate Farrow & Ball primer. This ensures even absorption and guarantees the durability of the finish.
